Allah Bhi hai Mallah Bhi hai.....

Allah Bhi Hai, mallah Bhi Hai- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Maan 1954- Lyricist Dr. Safdar Hussain Aah- Music Anil Biswas.
In 1954, two movies 'Waris' and 'Mahatma Kabir', whose music was scored by composer Anil Biswas were released. In both movies there was not a single song in Lata's voice. Another two movies, 'Maan' and 'Laaj' released in the same year under his music batton, however have Lata's voice. Both movies are now long forgotten, however the beautifully composed song in Lata's voice ' Allah Bhi Hai, Mallah Bhi Hai' is still remembered by avid cine buffs, for it's magical tune and ardent rendering the song by Lata, in her honey dipped voice laden with pathos. However this song was not composed for film 'Maan'.
When Filmistan's movie 'Anarkali' was being filmed on the sets, there were other two films relating to same subject, i.e. Anarkali-Saleem's royal romance, were also being filmed. One was 'Mughl-E-Azam' , and other was Filmkar's movie of the same name 'Anarkali'. Kamal Amrohi was the director of Filmkar's Anarkali, and for title role, the name of Meena Kumari was finalised. . The task of scoring the music for this film was assigned to composer Anil Biswas.  However this project was shelved as Filmistan's Anarkali and Mugh-E-Azam had same subject.  This movie however was instrumental in bringing Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari nearer to each other. Later on they got married. The song 'Allah Bhi Hai, Mallah Bhi Hai' was already recorded for this movie and was sung on screen by Anarkali's character. It was lying with Anil Biswas unused as the project was shelved. He used this song for his another movie 'Maan'.
Anarkali was a big project, whereas 'Maan' was a low budget movie, starring Ajeet and Chitra in lead role. The song, which was meant for Anarkali on screen was used for a beggar on screen in 'Maan'. It was ridiculous to hear the words ' Samsher-E-Mohabbat Kya Kahiye, Rukti Bhi Nahi, Chalti Bhi Nahi' from a beggar. Maan flopped on box office and was immediately forgotten. Today this movie is remembered only for this superb song. Every song has it's own destiny. Even the composer cannot assure and predict it's success or failure. This song in spite of being a musical gem, is today forgotten, save for some discerned music lovers, as it was ill placed.

Another beautiful song by Lata, in this voice " Guzra Hua Ulfat Ka Zamana, Yaad Karke Royenge' is here.....
