Chotasa Ghar Hoga Badalonki Chaomein- Kishor Kumar- Film Naukri 1954- Lyricist Shalendra- Music Salil Choudhary

Naukri, released in 1954 was a Bimal Roy directed film, highlighting the burning issue of unemployment. After independence, the young generation had aspirations and dreams about modestly prosperous life without much anxieties. Seven years after, however, those dreams and hopes began to shatter. Unemployment was on rise because of few jobs and swelling population. Bimal Roy's film always touched upon some sensitive  social problems plaguing  the contemporary Indian  society, like ,Do Beegha Zameen (Landless farmer's plight and burgeoning urbanisation), Sujata (Untouchability), and Bandini ( Destitute women). Naukri was no exception. In this film, Bimal Roy sheds light on the problem of unemployment and shattered dreams of youth. The lead pair was Kishor Kumar and Sheila Ramani. The songs were penned by Shailendra and music was by gifted composer Salil Choudhary.

The story of the film revolves around a youth Ratan (Kishor Kumar), who awaits his college exam results and lives with widowed mother (Achala Sacdev) and sick sister (Noor). He has a modest dream of a small house and contented life. After passing exams Ratan leaves for Calcutta to find a job. He leaves in a lodge and keeps applying for job. He falls in love with Seema (Sheila Ramani), who leaves in next compound. Their romance is not kindly looked upon by Seema's father, as Ratan is unemployed.

Meanwhile Ratan's ailing sister, suffering from TB, is admitted in sanatorium, and eventually dies. Ratan is shocked and depressed. He leaves for Bombay and lands a job there. Delighted, he writes a letter to Seema about the good news and encloses the appointment letter as proof for her father. The father receives the closed envelope, but thinking that Ratan is trying to woo his daughter, burns it. When Ratan comes to know this through Seema, his all hopes of happy life are in shamble. Add to this , he has forgotten the company's name and it's address. He roams around the various streets of Bombay and trying to locate the company among bewilderingly similar maze of innumerable companies. His problems compound as pick pocketers steal his wallet. He realises this and shouts for police, who instead suspects Ratan, as he does not possess any document to prove that he had obtained a job letter. Despite pleading his innocence, he lands in jail, and there during night he remembers the name of company. He tells this to Police Inspector, who releases him. He goes to company only to realise that he is too late. The job is given to another aspirant.

Ratan, pleads, cajoles and requests the Manager to find him any job. The manager gives him a job. Ratan being helpful and hard working guy, helps an old colleague , for doing his overtime job. Inadvertently he makes a mistake for which the old man is held responsible and fired. Ratan , being an honest man, takes the blame and assume responsibility. Meanwhile, Seema runs from her home and comes to Ratan, She saves the jobless Ratan when he tries to commit suicide. They decide to brave the life together and welcome all the adversities with courage. The story ends in poignant and happy note.

This song comes in the earlier part of the film, when Ratan shares his dreams of modest home and happy life along with his mother and ailing sister. She is also excited and joins him in the song.....

(He dreams of a modest happy home nestled in the seventh cloud, where there reside hopes of the better life. Thre will be stars in our eyes and aspirations in heart. His sister  will be resting in comfortable silver chair and mother in golden chair. He will be content to lie at the feet of his doting mother, serving her with devotion. He will get his loving sister married to a handsome prince. He also teases her, sooner he gets rid of her, better it is. In the same breath he hopes that some sweet princess will enter his life. Upon his mother's insistence to bring her home as daughter in law, he will get married to her. She will bring happiness and joy and enrich his life.)

Modest dream of a modest youth, but all dreams never materialize so easily. Ratan has to struggle and undergo several adversities. Many times he undergoes depression. Destiny plays cruel games with him. In the end however, Director Bimal Roy ends the movie on optimistic note. Shailendra's Lyrics is simple but heart touching, the rendering of song by Kishor Kumar is full of hope and fervor. Salil Choudhary's music is lilting and undulating.

Before becoming famous as a comedian actor-singer, Kishor Kumar acted in 2-3 serious movies like Adhikar and Dhobi Doctor. Naukri was also such a serious film. The record of this song bears the accompanying female singer's name as Usha Mangeshkar. But is is not Usha Mangeshkar's voice. Salil Choudhary was the composer coming in the Film Industry from IPTA ( India People's Theatre Association) movement. When he was active in IPTA , there was one child artist named Shaila Bele. It is her voice that we find accompanying Kishor's voice, in this song.

(different tune - )
