Koi Dur Bajaye Bansuri...

Koi Dur Bajye Bansuri- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Hamsafar 1953- Lyrics Sahir Ludhiyanvi- Music Ali Akbar Khan.
Film Humsafar, released in 1953 was a Navketan banner film ,produced by M.N.Watal and Directed by A.N.Banerjee. Sarod player Ali Akbar Khan was the music direcor. In those times, Kishor's voice was considered for only peppy and comedy songs. No composer considered him as a singer of serious songs, or devotional songs. However in Hamsafar he sang a devotional bhajan ' Leela Aparampar prabhuji Teri Leela'. By the time he became No.1 singer later, the trend of bhajan songs was not prevailing, therefore as it is,.  he sang very less bhajan songs, and this is his first bhajan song
The lead pair of Hamsafar was Devanand and Kilpana Kartik supported by Chetan Anand, Smriti Biswas and Johny walker. cast of the film was Dev Anand, Kalpana Kartik, Chetan Anand, Smriti Biswas, Johnny Walker etc.
The story revolves around two brothers of diametrically opposite nature. Vivek (Chetan Anand) is subdued, matured and calm, whereas Veer (Dev Anand) is full of energy and zest,  always seeking adventure. Both come to Bombay to earn a living. Vivek strives for a writer career and Veeru seeking fortune. They get accquainted with helpful Malti (Kalpana Kartik). However both brothers fail to succeed and Malti also looses her job. Vivek is diagnosed for Asthama, whereas frustated Veer comes in bad company of beggar Jaggu who introduces Veer to the world of dacoity. Veer becomes a kind of Robin Hood type of dacoit. He falls in love with a dancer girl (Smriti Biswas) abducted by his dacoit gang.
Later on, a novel by Vivek is published, which brings him fame and recognition. Vivek and Malti persuade Veer to surrender to the police. Vivek surrenders and get a minor sentence. He soon gets released to lead a normal, respectable life. The end.....
Although the plot was full of power and purpose, the direction is replete with inexperience. Character development is poor. The film touches the theme of unemployment and victory of virtue over evil peripherally without creating any impact. Music by Ali Akbar Khan was not particularly noteworthy. However this song by Lata ' Koi Dur Bajaye Basuri' stands apart, because of classical treatment given to it. No videos are available of Hamsafar songs.
