Kare Badara Tu Na Ja Na Ja

Kare Badara Tu Na Ja Na Ja- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Shikast 1953- Lyricist Shailendra- Music Shankar Jaikishan.

Shikast , released in 1953 was another musical film after Aah, Aah, Aas, Naya Ghar and Patita in the same year. All these films except Patita, bombed at Box office for different reasons, but discerning listeners of Hindi film music will certainly agree on one thing, that the music of all these film was beautifully composed. In fact , music was the only aspect, which saved these films from going into oblivion.
Shikast also was no exception. The music of Shankar Jaikishan duo was simply outstanding, although it could not salvage the film which has slow pace. Dialogues after dialogues which did not move the film narrative ahead but rather stagnated it. The poor development of characters, mercurial behavior of Sushma's character and abrupt end makes the film boring.
The story is about a doctor Ram (Dilip Kumar), who returns to his village Kundan Garh ,after seven years to sell his land. Seven years ago, Ram is deeply in love with Sushma ( Nalini Jaywant). Their match was forbidden , due to inter-family rivalry. Sushma is married elsewhere, whereas Ram, unable to bear the strain, goes to city. Now by selling his land, Ram intends to snap the last tie with his village.
In village, Ram is shocked to learn that Sushma is widowed and leaves with her child. Sushma is totally changed now. The unfortunate events in her life have embittered her. She looks after zamindari and rules the poor villagers in tyrannical way, disregarding their plight. Ram is aggrieved to witness their harsh conditions and decides to abandon the plan to sell his land. He plans to remain in the village for the sake of poor farmers and bring justice to them. He opens a school and small dispensary.
His still extant love for Sushma and concern about the poor villagers binds him to the village. Despite his disapproval and even disgust for the cruel way she behaves, he knows that he can't forget his love for her. In Sushma's case, the flame of love is still alive in her heart. In order to prevent him from leaving village, she starts her tyranny. An epidemic of plague hits the village, in which Ram saves Sushma's son from certain death. Sushma begins to mellow, rekindling the dormant emotions of love within her. She decides to side with him for removing the injustice done to poor by Zamindar Madho and his henchmen. Enraged Madho conspires to put Ram in jail by defaming Sushma and Ram's relationship and forces Sushma to give witness against Ram. However Ram is acquitted non guilty. Angry madho takes the revenge by dynamiting the dam near village and drown all. Sushma on the way to commit suicide, gets injured in the explosion. She tries in vain to arrest the water flow but eventually dies.
This song comes in the film when, Ram meets Sushma first time and she is delighted to see him in the village. At least she can see him from distance and feel his presence. To express her ecstatic motions she sings this song.....
