Asha Bhosle sang first time under Shankar Jaikishan's music in Shikast 1953. The song was ' Chamke Bijuriya Garje Megh'. The song however is forgotten, because music of Shikast was dominated by Lata Mangeshkar. Asha bhosle also started singing under S.D.Burman's music from this film. She had three solos and one duet with Talat Mahmood (This song). However of all the songs, this song stands apart because of it's lyrics, tune and presentation. Lyricist Sahir here is his philosophical best. He rues about the universal truth that love always surrenders itself before the cruel, unconcerned world. Those desirous of love always get their dreams demolished by the callous society. What they end up getting is the ash of their dreams. The love in this materialistic world is always governed by sheer power of money and brutal powers of authority. Precious lyrics and priceless music......
