Badi Barbadiya Lekar

Badi Barbadiya Lejar- Lata Mangeshkar- Film Dhun 1953-Lyricist Kaifi Irfani- Music Madan Mohan
Dhun, was the film produced under the banner of Silver Films and directed by M.Kumar. The lyrics were penned by Kaifi Irfani.  This is first time Kaifi started writing for Madan Mohan. Despite his writing talent, he was under utilized by the Industry. Only Anil Biswas, Roshan did justice to him. As for Madan Mohan Kohli, He began working in Bollywood as an assistant to music director C. Ramchandra, and got his first major film with Aankhen (1950), a love triangle. The film was a success. Subsequently, a fair amount of work came to Madan Mohan. Among his earlier films was a trilogy of movies with his childhood friend Raj Kapoor – _Aashiana (1952)_, _Dhoon (1953)_ and Paapi (1953). Unfortunately for Madan Mohan, the films he chose to compose for, did not create much impact on box office, and it was only with Bhai Bhai (1956), which starred the legendary , Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar, that he got some success.

Although he brought out the best in his singers, special mention must be made of his work with Lata Mangeshkar, which showed both of them at their very best. This legendary combination was established in 1951 with Adaa (1951) and continued right up to (and after) his death. Madan Mohan had this special talent of bringing out the best in Lata’s voice – she could sound seductive in Sanjog (1961), jaunty in Neela Aakash (1965) and perky in Mera Saaya (1966). However, it was in sentimental songs that they were at their best. The Gazal king and the Melody Queen had given innumerable sentimental musical Gems, which keep mesmerising even after 60 years to many generations.  The video of this song is not available, but if the God given honeyed voice with amazing modulations can express the sentiments of pains and anguish so effectively, and if the music gives so heavenly experience, who requires it...?
This is one of the less heard melody from the immortal combination of Lata-Madan Mohan, but has all the hallmarks of a Madan Mohan,  embedded in it. Truly astonishing and awesome......

( The love has brought so much anguish and miseries in her life. For the cost of a brief moment of laughter and joy, what she ultimately gained was the thousand moments of agonies and trauma. She expected that it would fill her life with happiness and gaiety, but at the end the betrayal of her beloved has filled it with tears and immense sorrow. Her eyes are repeatedly welling up with sorrow filled tears. She feels dejected and desolate. Her all the pleasures have vanished forever, faith in love lost. She ashamed that she has become a laughing stock for entire cruel and unconcerned world. This pain has no limit and no body wants to know and care about  it)
Every precious word of Kaifi's lyrics dripping with intense and passionate sentiments and pains of the hurt mind. The profoundly meaning words brings about the torment in the bruised and  bleeding heart. Lataji's divine voice laden with pathos. Madan Mohan's music is simply out of this world. Listen to this song in the dead of night, lying under the canopy of star studded indigo blue sky and just get transported to another sentimental world....!!
