Jal Ke Dil Khah Hua , Aankhse Roya Na Gayaa.......

Jalke Dil Khah Hua, Aankhse Roya Na Gaya- Lata mangeshkar- Film Parichay 1954- Lyrics Keshav Trivedi- Music Shailesh.
History of Bollywood is replete with examples of many gifted artists, be it actors/actress, singer or composer who shined for one or two films and then fizzled out. It is not that they were not talented, it just happened that they were in industry at wrong time, when the eminent composers like Naushad, Shankar-Jaikishan, C.ramchandra, Roshan were at their zenith. They could have coped with the quality competition, but the field was already saturated and dominated by this well known composers. Their brief career, therefore came to end after a couple of films. However the music they gave to these films was extraordinary and in no way inferior to the music given by other renowned composer, but they were unfortunate to gain fame and recognition. The likes of composers Lacchiram,  Govind Ram, Nashad, Iqbal Quereshi fall into this category. Another addition to this list is that of Shailesh Mukherjee. He tried his hand in acting in films' Pyar Ki Pyas', and 'Bandish', but like Mukesh and Talat Mahmood, he was unsuccessful as an actor. He then tried singing (Remember his duet with Shamshad Begum in Raj Kapoor's  film Aag ' Dekh Chand Ki Or' ? Here he was partially successful. Simultaneously he also tried composing the songs. 'Suhag Sindoor was his first film as composer, which bombed at Box office. Parichay 1954, was his second film. Here the lady luck smiled upon him. His music became popular. Particularly the songs by Lata in this film were appreciated. She sang following songs
  1. Jal Ke dil Khah Hua Aankse Roya na gaya
  2. Aasooonki chhaomein Bhi Has Le O Dilwale
  3. Aayee Bhor Ki Bela Hai
All these song became popular. However this song, ' Jal Ke Dil Khah Hua' stands apart from other song , due to it's profoundly heart wrenching lyrics, the soulful rendering and heavenly music, which transports the listener to another despondent world where sorrow and agony reigns.

( As the fire in the house, sheltered by home, ravages the home itself,  her heart is bruised and totally consumed by the agonies tormenting her mind.  Coming out of this fatal experience, her mind  is so severely crushed and bruised, that even the delicacies of tenderly soft bed of flowers cannot give her consolation and solace.  Her beloved had aroused the aspirations and hopes about happy life , laced with affection and love. However he has abandoned her in half way, leaving her totally shattered. She rues why he did not drown her completely, instead of leaving half dead and devastated.
She was an innocent, blooming flower, happy and joyous in her own world. But the cruel destiny plucked her and thrown in the dust to wither away. It did not even consider her worthy of a place in a garland.  She is baffled why this is happening to her. Is it her fault or that of her creator. One thing she is sure of is nobody , not even the creator is without any inadequacies. Even the moon has black spots on him, which cannot be erased by frequent downpour of rains. Probably this must be her destiny to suffer the desolate, bleak and barren life henceforth. A total surrender to her fate.)
The deeply pessimistic lyrics, oozes with the feelings  helpless, despondent mind and the pains of bleeding heart. Lata has rendered the song as usual superbly in her mellow and tender voice fully laden with pathos. The lyrics, the singing and the simple but awe inspiring music takes this song to heavenly level. Truly, masterpiece from Shailesh. Today his name and that of this movie is remembered only for this wonderfully composed song.
