Naukri was the film about the problem of rising unemployment and  shattered dreams of young generation immediately after independence. The aspirations and hopes of youth of contemporary society arose when the nation gained independence. There were dreams of modest happy life in their eyes. However, those dreams shattered when unemployment problem began to eclipse their ambitions and longing for better life. This was Bimal Roy production film, directed by Bimal Roy, who always touched some sensitive issue plaguing the society like untouchability, plight of landless labourers, inhuman urbanization etc. In Naukri , he delved upon the subject of unemployment and how it affects the lives of young generation.

This is a story about certain unemployed youth Ratan (Kishor Kumar), who lives with his widowed mother and ailing sister suffering from TB. He awaits the results of college exams. He has dream about a modest happy home, where his mother and sister live happily without any anxieties and miseries. He is content to lie at his doting mother's feet, serving her with devotion. He also dreams about getting his sister married to some caring handsome bride groom with whom she will spend her life happily thereafter. He dreams about some princess, who will enter his life as a life partner and enrich his life. The remaining film shows how he has to undergo several problems and depression leading to his trying to commit suicide while he earnestly tries to land himself in some job.

After passing BA exams , he comes to Calcutta and resides in a dilapidated lodge, along with some unemployed colleagues. Next to his compound lives Seema (Sheila Ramani).  Ratan wooes her by singing romantically from his window, and from opposite window Seema listens to his songs. She is smitten with his charm and falls in love with him.

In this song, she describes the ecstatic  emotions welling up from her heart, when she experiences the magic of first love.
