Kaise Koi Jeeye

Kaise Koi jeeye- Geeta Dutt- Film Baadaban 1954- Lyric Indivar- Music Ved pal, Timir Baran.

There are some music composers, who gained fame for only a single film and thereafter they go into oblivion. Ved Pal and Timir Basan were one of such composers. Their music to film Baadbaan is still revered by avid listeners of cine music. Bombay Talkies was a prestigious production house in film industry, however after 1952 it was dissolved. However some technicians and workers associated with this organisation dearly wanted to revive it's lost fame. They came together to produce film Baadbaan in 1954. The film tasted success but unfortunately was unable to revive Bombay Talkies.
Baadbaan means fostered by Storm ( Baad- Storm, and baan- safe keeping). The story of the film is about hero (Dev Anand) whose fishermen folk parents are lost in a sea storm. The Orphaned Hero is adapted by a rich, caring philanthropist. Real twist in the plot comes , when Hero returns from England and falls in love with a socialite (Meena Kumari). Her father is against the love and marriage , when he learns about hero's true parentage, but he agrees for marriage when he is unable to see his daughter's grief..
When hero returns to his native fisher village, in order to improve the conditions of his own people, he meets a fisher girl Mohania (Usha Kiran). He is smitten with her charm and beauty. Now he is caught in dilema... wife or Mohania ? The complex situation is solved by the tragic death of his wife. The end of movie subtly suggests hero's return to his place of birth, to Mohania and to his own people. His journey to discover the roots starts.
Director Phani Muzumdar handles the array of talents of larger than life stars with deftness. All stars offered their stellar performance. Usha Kiran particularly lits up the screen with her presence and dominates the film with her gloriously rich portrayal of fisher girl Mohania. Meena Kumari gives quiet and polished performance. Ashok Kumar as hero's friend is subtle.
This song was recorded in Hemant Kumar's voice also and it was picturized on Ashok Kumar. Geeta Dutt version was picturized on Meena Kumari.
Composer Timir Basan composed a song ' Dukh Ke Din Ab Bitat Nahi', which was sung by legendary K.L.Saigal in Devdas 1935. The song became Saigal's destiny. He drowned himself in drinks and departed from this world in loneliness. The history repeated itself in 1954, when Timir Basan composed a song ' Kaise Koi Jeeye, Jahar Hai Zindagi'. Meena Kumari, who sang the song onscreen and singer Geeta Dutt also embraced the glass of drink, ruined their career and breathed their last in utter miseries enveloped in mystic solitude.  Strange are the ways of destiny.....
