Rahi Matwale Tu Ched Ek Baar....

Rahi Matwale Tu Ched Ek Baar- Talat Mahmood and Suraiyya- Film Waris 1954- Lyricist Qamar jalalabadi- Music Anil Biswas
Talat Magmood, like Mukesh, came in Hindi Film Industry, to become an actor-Singer. His role model was K.L.Saigal, a legendary actor-singer. From Rajlaxmi (1945) to Sone Ki Chidiyan (1958), he acted in 13 films. However despite his handsome looks and velvet smooth singing voice, he could not gain fame and success as actor Therefore in his later days he concentrated on singing career, where he was immensely successful. The unique voice with imperceptible quiver  was his asset and signature. His gazals and songs are still listened and adored by avid cine buffs.
When producer Sohrab Modi (the Cecil B. DeMille of Indian Cinema) conceived the film 'WARIS' for the reigning singing superstar Talat Mahmood, he decided to bring in the highly respected Director Nitin Bose, renowned for introducing playback singing to Indian Cinema and later for directing the great Dilip Kumar's magnum opus 'Ganga Jamuna'. Not just one, but two top heroines were signed up to play the lead opposite Talat Mahmood - Suraiya, the highest paid heroine of her time and the beautiful Nadira ! Apart from being the top stars of the day, they were also great fans of this handsome singer and welcomed the chance to team up with the Ghazal King. 'WARIS' of course, was a hit!
The songs of the film were penned by Qamar Jalalabadi and Majrooh Sultanpuri and music was given by Anil Biswas. The story was about inheritance with melodramatic end. Kunwar (talat Mahmood), son of a wealthy businessman Himmat Rai (Jagdish Sethi), is sent to Bombay by his father, to prove his worth, without any help or props by his father. He is given an apprentice job in his father's factory. While he is travelling to Mumbai, he encounters with Shobha (Suraiyya), who in the disguise of a Sikh is travelling in the same compartment without ticket. When ticket collector asks for her ticket she is unable to pay. The compassionate Kunwar pays for her ticket. Later on during the night journey, seeing her shivering from cold, he drapes a blanket on her, and at this time he discovers she is not male but female. When he scolds her for deceit, she explains that she had to travel to see her ailing father in Bombay and in hurry forgot to purchase ticket.
Both became friends during journey. Upon reaching Bombay they go to her home only to discover that her father has already expired. Grief stricken Shobha has no where to go, hence decides to reside with Kunwar, who also ready agrees. During this period they come nearer to each other and fall in love. The factory Manager Kailash (Yakub), informs this affair to Kunwar's father, who is enraged. He opposes the marriage, but Kunwar and shobha did get married after all, despite all opposition.
On the other hand Kailash's married life is in shamble, because his wife Kanta (Nadira) , suspects his involvement in another woman Ruhi. Kanta leaves him.   They fall apart. Angry Himmat Rai, fires Kunwar from his job. Unemployed Kunwar, then had to enroll for army job, where he sent to battlefield. The ship that takes him to battlefield is bombed and drowned. The news of Kunwar's death devastates his father. He repents about the cold treatment given to Kunwar  and Shobha. He decides to call her back to home. While Shobha is travelling to her home, she meets Kanata. Kanta takes interest in golden wedding ring in Shobha's hand. At this instance the train meets accident. Kanta impersonates Shobha to claim inheritance. After many twists and turns, Shobha is able to get her due.
This song comes in the film , when Kunwar is travelling to Bombay to get his job and prove his worth as per his father's wish. There in the journey, he gets acquainted with Shobha. Smitten by her beauty and charm , he sings this song. At the end of song, Shobha also joins him....

The song comes in sad version, in Suraiyya's voice, when she comes to know of the news of his death. She does not believe it, and has unshakable faith that he is alive and will come back to grace her life with happiness and joy. She remembers to fond and affectionate moments and calls him back.
